The console layout

What this is for

The dashboard (also called the console) is the website where you manage ClinikAPI. This page is a tour of the parts that appear on every screen, so that when another page says “open Access” or “use the project switcher”, you know exactly where to click. Nothing here changes your data; it is just about finding your way around.

Before you start

  • You need a ClinikAPI account and to be signed in at dashboard.clinikapi.com.
  • Everything on this page is available to every role. The only role-dependent item is New project in the project switcher, which is shown to organization owners and admins only.

The two levels: organization and project

Everything in the console lives inside two nested containers:
  • An organization is your company or team. It owns the members, the billing and the plan.
  • A project lives inside an organization. It owns your API keys and the records those keys create. Webhooks, Logs, Realtime and Usage are reached from inside a project, but they cover the whole organization. Most organizations start with one project called Default project.
Think of the organization as the building and each project as a room in it. Keys from one room do not open another room.

Find your way around

1

Look at the top bar

The bar across the top shows a breadcrumb trail: your organization name, then (when you are inside a project) the project name, then the name of the page you are on. The two names are buttons. Select one to open a switcher.
2

Switch organization

Select the organization name. The menu is headed Organizations and lists every organization you belong to, each with a small plan badge (for example Free). A tick marks the current one. At the bottom are New organization and Organization settings.
3

Switch project

Select the project name. The menu is headed Projects and lists each project with its ref (a 20-letter code) under the name. Choosing another project keeps you on the same page, so if you are looking at Logs you stay on Logs for the new project. At the bottom are All projects and, for owners and admins, New project.
4

Use the sidebar

The narrow column of icons on the left is the sidebar. Hover over it, or press Tab to move into it, and it expands to show labels. Select Pin open to keep it expanded, and Unpin to shrink it again. Your choice is remembered in this browser only.
5

Open the search menu

Select Search… in the top bar, or press ⌘K on a Mac or Ctrl+K on Windows and Linux. Type a few letters and press Enter to jump to a page, project, organization, API key or documentation page.

What you’ll see

Inside a project the sidebar lists, from top to bottom: Projects (back to the list), then Overview, Data browser, Exports, FHIR server, Access, Webhooks, Realtime, Logs, Usage, API reference and Project settings, then Organization settings at the bottom. At the organization level (outside any project) the sidebar shows only Projects and Organization settings. On a phone or small window the sidebar is hidden. Use the Open menu button at the top left, which opens a sheet titled Menu with the same links. The right side of the top bar has, from left to right:
  • Search… (a magnifying-glass icon on narrower screens).
  • A help menu (question-mark icon, hidden on phones) with Documentation, System status and Contact support.
  • A theme button with Light, Dark and System. System follows your device’s light or dark setting.
  • Your account menu (a circle with your initial). It shows your name and email, then Security, Profile and Sign out.
The search menu has a box that says “Search pages, keys, docs…” and groups its results under Pages, Projects, Organizations (only if you belong to more than one), API keys and Documentation. API keys appear by name and the first few characters only, never the whole key. Choosing one opens the Access page of that key’s project. If nothing matches, it says No results. The incident banner. If there is an active incident or scheduled maintenance, a yellow strip appears at the top of the page with a Status page link. The wording is one of “Scheduled maintenance is under way. Some features may be briefly unavailable.”, “We are investigating an issue affecting some services.” or “Some services are running slower than usual. We are looking into it.” When nothing is wrong, there is no banner. Where you land. Opening the dashboard takes you to the project you used last, if you still belong to its organization. Otherwise you land on your first organization’s Projects page. Skip to content. Keyboard users can press Tab once on any page to reveal a Skip to content link that jumps past the navigation.

Common questions

The organization is who you are (your team, your billing, your members). A project is one application or environment you are building (its keys and the records they create). You can have several projects in one organization.
A short, permanent code of 20 lowercase letters that identifies a project. You see it under the project name in the project switcher and in page addresses. It does not change if you rename the project.
You are at the organization level. Open a project from Projects (or the project switcher) and the project pages appear.
The help menu is hidden on narrow screens. Use the search menu’s Documentation group instead, which has the same links.
No. It is remembered in the browser you used, so it will be unpinned on another device or in a private window.
