Billing
What this is for
The Billing page is where an organization’s money lives. It shows which plan you are on and when it renews, lets you move to a bigger or smaller plan, lists your invoices (each with a PDF), and holds the card and the details printed on your invoices. It is the page to open when you want to upgrade, when a payment has failed, or when your finance team asks for an invoice with a tax number on it. Billing belongs to the organization, not to a single project: the plan covers every project inside it.Before you start
- Open Organization settings at the bottom of the sidebar and choose Billing.
- What you can do depends on your role:
Members see the same page without the buttons. Where a control is missing the page says who can use it, for example “Only an owner or admin can change payment methods.”
Your plan
1
Read the Subscription plan card
It shows a badge with your plan (Free, Pro, Team or Enterprise), the Plan line (with “billed monthly” or “billed yearly” on a paid plan) and, on a paid plan, Renews on a date. If the plan is set to end, it says Ends on instead.
2
Select Change plan
A panel titled Change plan opens: “The plan applies to the whole organization and every project in it.” Choose Monthly or Yearly (Save 20%) under Billing period, then pick a plan card: Free, Pro, Team or Enterprise. Your current one is tagged Current plan. A card that cannot be bought right now says “Not available to buy right now.”
3
Read what will happen
A section below the cards spells out the result before you confirm it, so you are never surprised. It includes the timing, the amount charged today (if any), and a What stops list when you move down.
4
Confirm
The main button names the change: Upgrade to a plan, Downgrade to a plan at period end, Switch at renewal, or Cancel at period end. Select Close to leave without changing anything.
How each change works
If you move to your first paid plan from Free, the panel also asks for a card, billing address and optional tax ID, then charges it (a bank check may pop up). When it works the page says “Payment received. Your plan is being activated.” and, for a moment, a notice reads “Payment received. Your Pro plan is being activated. This page checks every few seconds.” The Change plan button is disabled while that happens.
Scheduled changes. After a downgrade or cancel is booked, the card shows a notice: “Moving to Pro (monthly) on” the date, or “Your plan ends on” the date, adding “Until then everything keeps working. Live keys are revoked and the organization moves to Free after that; nothing is deleted.” The owner sees a Keep my current plan button to undo it (a message confirms “Your plan will continue”).
If you are a member. The card shows Request upgrade instead. Select it and the button turns into Request recorded, with the note “Only an owner or admin can change the plan. You can ask once a day; the request is recorded for them.” (An owner or admin who tries it is told “You can change the plan yourself.”)
The rest of the page
From top to bottom:- Requests this month: how many requests you have used out of your plan’s allowance, a bar, and “Resets in” a number of days. A line underneath splits requests into live and test.
- Compute & add-ons: a table of your projects with each one’s size and what it costs per month. A first project is shown as Included. A link, Compute and Disk, takes you to Compute and disk. On Free it explains that Free projects use a shared sandbox. “Dedicated projects are rolling out; until a project moves to its own server nothing is billed for its compute.”
- Upcoming invoice: appears when there is one coming. It shows the estimated date, each line and a Total.
- Invoices: a table with Date, Number, Amount, Status (Paid, Unpaid, Void, Uncollectible or Draft) and a PDF link that opens the invoice in a new tab. Before your first payment it shows No invoices yet: “Invoices appear here after your first payment, with a PDF for each.”
- Payment methods: your cards. See below.
- Billing address & tax ID: see below.
- Billing email: where invoices and payment notices are sent.
Cards, address, tax IDs and email
1
Add a card
In Payment methods select Add card. A panel titled Add a card says “Card details go straight to our payment provider. We never see them.” Fill it in and select Add card. The message Card added confirms it.
2
Make a card the default or remove it
Beside a card (shown as, for example, “Visa ending 4242”, with the Default or Expired tag and “Expires 04/27”) select Make default or Remove. Removing opens Remove card: “You can add it again later. If it pays for your plan, add another card first.” You cannot remove the card that pays for your plan or the default card; the page tells you what to do first.
3
Set the billing address
In Billing address & tax ID select Add address (or Edit address), complete the address in the panel Billing address (“Used for tax and shown on your invoices.”) and select Save address. Tax is worked out from this address.
4
Add a tax ID
Under Tax IDs select Add tax ID. In the panel Add a tax ID (“It appears on invoices from now on.”) choose the Type (US EIN, EU VAT, UK VAT, Canada BN, Australia ABN or India GST), type the Tax ID and select Add tax ID. Tax IDs are shown masked, with only the last four characters. Remove opens Remove tax ID: “Remove this tax ID from your invoices going forward? Invoices already issued are not changed.”
5
Set the billing email
In Billing email select Add email (or Change email), type the Email and select Save email. Invoices and payment notices go there.
If an invoice is overdue
When a payment fails and an invoice stays unpaid, a red banner appears at the top of every page in the organization: “Your last payment didn’t go through.” It adds “Pay now to keep your projects running. New projects can’t be created until it’s paid.” Nothing else changes: everything that exists keeps working and nothing is deleted.- Owners and admins see a Pay now link in the banner. It opens Billing at Payment methods, where a red box says “You have an unpaid invoice. Pay it with your default card, or add a new card first.” Select Pay now there; Payment received. Thank you. confirms it.
- Members see “Ask an owner or admin to pay it.”
- While an invoice is overdue you cannot create a project: “Your organization has an unpaid invoice. Pay it in Billing to create new projects.”
